At Kumo we love to go against the grain. Most kitchens in Melbourne have a bloke calling the pass (and the shots), but in our kitchen with six women to one man we are definately run on girl power!
Kumo Head Chefs Akimi Iguchi and Eriko Hamabe bring boundless passion, skill and expertise to our menu and we'd like to take this oppurtunity to introduce them
Head Chef Akimi Iguchi
Akimi's passion for food and cuisine stems from a childhood love for cooking. Originally from Sapporo, Akimi brings exquisite skills to the Kumo kitchen having trained in many top Japanese kitchens. Her knowledge of Japanese flavours and technical skills was mastered in Japan and has been applied in Melbourne's Yu-U and Bar Lourinha.
Head Chef Eriko Hamabe
Originally from Osaka, Eriko trained to be a chef at William Angliss in Melbourne and worked the kitchens of Kobe Jones and the Royal George Hotel. Taking family recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation, Eriko mixes her Japanese roots with her Western training to offer Kumo Izakaya a unique take on izakaya cuisine.
