Welcome to Kumo Izakaya, Melbourne's foremost location for Japanese sake, food and culture. An eating place, a drinking place, a meeting place, Kumo is more than a restaurant and bar.

We serve "Izakaya" style Japanese food, it's closest comparison is Spanish tapas. Lots of smaller dishes to share, meaning you get to try many different tastes as opposed to locking yourself into the traditional western style dining of "entree, mains and dessert".

At Kumo Izakaya, you will find a varied and extensive range of local and imported wine, spirits, sake, shochu, umeshu and beer. Our in-house wine and sake experts will be on hand to offer recommendations and information. Enjoy a range of small gourmet izakaya-style platters between friends while opening up a bottle of wine or sake to match, or sip a house signature cocktail or fine Japanese whisky at the bar.

Join us on Sunday 5th August for our birthday dinner celebration.

Woosh! Where did the year go?

On Sunday 5th August we celebrate one year of offering our unique Izakaya style dinning and Australia's biggest sake list.

Kumo head chefs Akimi Iguchi & Eriko Hamabe have put together a sumptuous eleven course menu highlighting the Kumo favourites over the past year. Owners Andre & Jo Bishop will also be dining and will be happy to answer your questions on sake and Japanese cuisine in general.

This dinner will be limited to 75 guests so grab some friends and book now. First 5 groups of 6 people to book will be offered one of our cozy booths.


Tickets are $85 per person. This includes an eleven course dinner and an Orion beer or Yuzu cocktail on arrival.

$10 deposit required per person at time of booking
