Welcome to Kumo Izakaya, Melbourne's foremost location for Japanese sake, food and culture. An eating place, a drinking place, a meeting place, Kumo is more than a restaurant and bar.

We serve "Izakaya" style Japanese food, it's closest comparison is Spanish tapas. Lots of smaller dishes to share, meaning you get to try many different tastes as opposed to locking yourself into the traditional western style dining of "entree, mains and dessert".

At Kumo Izakaya, you will find a varied and extensive range of local and imported wine, spirits, sake, shochu, umeshu and beer. Our in-house wine and sake experts will be on hand to offer recommendations and information. Enjoy a range of small gourmet izakaya-style platters between friends while opening up a bottle of wine or sake to match, or sip a house signature cocktail or fine Japanese whisky at the bar.

Izakaya delights await you inside this converted bank

Bringing a taste Tokyo to 152 Lygon Street is Kumo Izakaya & Sake Bar. Kumo, means cloud, but that doesn't mean East Brunswick's newest eatery will be dispersing any time soon! A special delivery, Kumo stays true to traditional izakayas but transcends modern Japan in a way Melbourne has never seen before.

A mix of sake professionals, sommeliers, and experienced visionary chefs who understand Japan's need to be on trend and forward thinking in all areas of life, Kumo is what you want to make of it. A place to eat, a place to drink, a place to meet friends and be merry. Stay for a few plates and sakes, or settle in and wait for the evening to unfold.

You'll be welcomed and guided by a team that know the essence of izakaya style, and can answer any questions you may have.

We believe in the principles of izakaya and follow one Japanese proverb in particular - 'Genki kubari, Egao kubari', Be generous with your energy. Be generous with your smiles."

Kumo has arrived.
